Advent Adventures Crash and Burn

With the best of intentions sometimes life just gets in the way, and this part of my life is called pneumonia.  Our advent adventures continued but a record of what my children and husband did and on what days has been lost by me but I know they did something and some days I participated and some days not and some days I shouldn't have like waiting in line for 2 hours outside in freezing coldness to see Santa..I paid for the next few days  for that decision.  We had a fabulous Christmas and were able to enjoy all of our family traditions except one and the children have not said anything about it so maybe is not so important.  I even was able to finish a project or two..it took me days longer but they were completed.

I am certainly looking forward to next year and sharing in some of our projects we have completed and a host of new projects and family fun that are on our to do list for 2012!!!

Advent Adventures Day Seven

With Dads continued help with our adventures to my surprise I had 3 of my little cuties come into my room and sing me a song.  Not just any song the first song I taught myself to play on the piano...Love at Home!  Love my Family!

Advent Adventures Day Four

Luckily for me we had day 3 complete because as that day progressed I started running a fever and day 4 would have been lost.  We had decided to do a service project for our Granny.   Granny broke her ankle 4 days before Thanksgiving and will be spending the Holidays in a Rehab/Nursing Home with her spirits down we came up with a plan to get her a small tree and decorate it.  With our craft supplies purchased and with Dad at the helm the kiddos, plus their cousin and his sisters made ornaments to decorate her tree.  Then came the big surprise to show up and decorate her tree.  I wish I could have been there but I heard it was a lot of fun and she loved it!!!

Advent Adventures Day Three

I really can't get into exactly what we did today due to the fact some people read this that it involves.  I can say this we prepared for a few service projects that are to come over the next week and the children are so excited and it has been a fun process to see them thinking of others and coming up with their own plans to serve.

Advent Adventures Day Two

Day 2 brought a family dinner party.  Not just our family of 6 but my sisters and thier families and my dad and stepmom and my grandparents- 25 in all and our home was full with women chatting, teenagers talking, preschoolers building, babies babbling and everything in between.  Amazing enough there was not one fight or arguement amongst the little guys and our home was full of family joy.

Advent Adventures Day One

Day one of our Advent Adventures we read a book.  IF you have not read this book before I highly recommend it..The Elf on the Shelf the premise of the book is a little elf comes to your home and sees how your children are behaving and every night he goes and tells Santa all the good and not so good stuff happening and then when he comes back that night he is hides in a different spot.  After reading the book we decided on a name for our little elf his name is Frarry( a combo of Fred and Harry) and then we went on a hunt to see if he appeared somewhere around the house and sure enough naming our elf worked believe it or not he was hiding in the flowers on the message board silly Frarry but he did have a good view of whether or not the foyer was free of children's coats, backpacks, boots, mittens and the like.  When the kids realized he was there and could see if they left a mess or not they cleaned it right up good job FRARRY(I love him already).

The second book we read was The Christmas Sweater.  I can not read this book without crying and so now I just have tissues on hand.  All the young boy wants for Christmas is a red shiny bike but what he needed was a Christmas Sweater after a night of dreaming he wakes up and it is Christmas morning as he runs down stairs to the tree he sees his New Red bike but he is looking for something more...I love this story and it teaches a gosepl truth so simply with such a sweet spirit the heart of your little ones can't help but be filled with the Spirt of our Heavenly Father.

Advent Calendar

I love Christmas time but those who know me know I love any time that I can do fun things with my children.  I fully believe the quote from one of my favorite movies, "attitude reflects leadership" and because myself and David are so excited about doing whatever it is with our children they follow right along and that is how our Advent Adventures started we wanted to spend more focused time with our kiddos.  We decided instead of little goodies to eat we would put little pieces of paper in it for actvities to do as a family.  We don't pre load it with the slips of paper, we(my David and myself) write out a list of things we would like to do with the children for the Holiday season including things like Christmas parties, getting a Christmas tree, reading the CHRISTmas Story, making cookies, doing a service project, etc... and then decide the night before depending on our schedule what will go into the little boxes.  This is by far the most loved tradition in our home.  It addes this excitement and feeling of unity within our family one of those feelings you will treasure into the eternities.  It is at this time every year we get a true glimpse of our family here on earth as eternal and I am so grateful for the Spirit that fills our home like a large quilt on a chiily night.

For the next 25 days I am going to share with you our Advent Adventures that come from a little door on small piece of paper but bring sooo much more!!!
